DR. VICTOR M. CHANG, DPT, OMPT
Dr. Victor Chang is the founder of Movement Balance & Sports Performance, LLC (www.movebalancesport.com) - a unique and elite approach in one-on-one performance physiotherapy, injury prevention, and holistic movement training with a focus on regenerative medicine and therapy. Dr. Chang attended nationally top ranked Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2006. He completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in biomechanics from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 2003.
Dr. Chang also received his specialty training in Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy, Functional Dry Needling, and Rehab & Strength Training using Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy, widely used among collegiate and profesional athletes, Olympians, and major professional sports organizations such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. In conjunction with delivering quality care, Dr. Chang also holds a position of Assistant Instructor with Evidence In Motion (EIM) Kinetacore, training physical therapists, physicians, and chiropractors the fundamentals of Functional Dry Needling. He is also specially trained in applying dry needling in functional postures with neuromuscular retraining through electrical stimulation to help achieve the highest level of functional recovery and performance. He is a proud member of the Orthopaedic and Sports Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Dr. Chang has been trained under internationally recognized physical therapist, movement scientist, and researcher, Dr. Shirley Sarhmann, PT, PhD, FAPTA, and her Movement Systems Impairment (MSI) approach. MSI specializes in the diagnosis, analysis, treatment and prevention of biomechanical and movement dysfunctions leading to musculoskeletal disorders and injuries. Dr. Chang is also a certified Orthopedic Manual & Manipulative Specialist through the Institute of Manipulative Physiotherapy and Clinical Training (IMPACT) affiliated with the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). He has trained through the internationally recognized Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Seminars for Orthopedic Manual & Manipulative Physical Therapy specializing in joint and spinal manipulations.
Dr. Chang's unique approach stems from his background in engineering and biomechanics combined with his training in movement science and physiotherapy. Dr. Chang utilizes a conservative holistic training approach focusing on proper spinal and joint alignment while integrating dry needling, manipulative techniques, and corrective exercises to ensure healthy, optimal movement, and prevention of injury. His focus is built on the foundation of balanced functional strength and movement training. He is passionate in educating and helping to restore efficient, powerful, and pain-free movement in every athlete, performer, and any individual seeking optimal movement performance to reach his or her potential and goals.
Dr. Chang has been a trusted provider for USA Swimming club and collegiate swimmers, elite Ironman triathletes, athletes in the NBA, the professional tennis ATP World Tour, collegiate level golf and soccer athletes, and has consulted with professional Major League Soccer team D.C. United.
Dr. Chang also has a heart for local and global service opportunities and missions. Helping many individuals seek a greater hope through life's challenges and struggles motivates his success. He invites anyone to not only support his passion in bringing hope to others, but also to join him in his efforts.
Dr. Chang is originally from Rockville, Maryland and loves traveling and spending time with his wife and two kids, family, and great friends. He enjoys teaching and coaching, swimming, running, strength training, and hopes to return back to competing triathlons one day! He loves being actively involved with local club swim teams year round and especially the Summer season with MCSL!
